Pointillism is a form of painting in which tiny dots of primary colors are used to generate secondary colors. It is an offshoot of Impressionism, and is usually categorized as a form of Post-Impressionism. Pointillism is focused on the specific style of brushwork, but not on the subject.

The scheme of Pointillism is in sharp contrast to the traditional methods of blending pigments on a palette. Pointillism is analogous to the four-color CMYK: Cyan (blue), Magenta (red), Yellow, and Key (black) printing process. Televisions and computer monitors use a similar technique to represent image colors using Red, Green, and Blue (RGB) colors.
